Top 10 Telecom Billing Mistakes

........found by Telecom Bill Auditors:

1) Incorrect billing of "Surcharges" (i.e. PLC, SLC, FUSF etc)

2) Term & volume discounts not applied properly

3) Billing for services that have been disconnected

4) Improper long distance carrier selection

5) Excessive Port &/or PVC's on Frame & MPLS networks

6) Incorrect mileage charges on private line and FX services

7) Cramming - 3rd party billing of services not authorized

8) Paying for services no longer needed

9) Using measured services instead of flat rate services

10) Install charges billed in error

Take the time to check your bills or hire someone to do it for you. These billing mistakes tend to go undetected for years. Most carriers have a statute of limitations of 2 years on refunds. Every month you wait, you may be letting money go down the drain.

Telephone Tax Refund

Many companies are missing out on thousands of dollars by not requesting a refund on taxes paid for long distance and "bundled services" (i.e. cellular, VoIP etc.) between March 2003 and July 2006.

We talk to numerous businesses each day and have found that over 50% weren't aware of the IRS refund or didn't think it was worth pursuing. Most were surprised when they discovered how much their company would receive.

A very high level estimate is about 1 months worth of charges for long distance & cellular service. (The IRS will not credit the tax collected on "local service" charges at this time.) Most data services were not charged this tax so they won't qualify for a refund either.

There are a couple ways to calculate your refund but we recommend the Full Accounting method. You can find information and links to IRS WEB sites at: http://www.irsfetrefund.com/

You can do the analysis in house or hire someone to do it for you. Just type FET Refund into your favorite search engine and you will find many companies who offer this service. There are how to books on the subject and loads of free information on the the IRS WEB site.

If that is too much work, there is one more option. Surprise, Surprise. We can help your company get the maximum refund from the IRS, also. Normally, we work on a contingency basis but offer flat rate pricing, as well. In addition to helping you get your refund from the IRS, we will review your bills for other errors. (Remember, 80% of all business telephone bills have errors.) Oftentimes, the additional refunds we get from your service providers offset the fee charged for the entire bill analysis.

It's like finding free money.
